La Barca Campaign Update!

Exciting News!  Thanks to our generous donors, the La Barca site was reopened in late January in time to welcome students for the 2016 school year.  We've almost reached our campaign's goal!  Can you help us reach it or surpass it?  The income from the La Barca Endowment Fund will ensure that this boarding facility will stay open to provide hope for the future through education for many of God's very poor in that area.

Background Information

This small APUFRAM project located about halfway between Flores and San Pedro Sula was established in 2002 in order to serve the children of families displaced by Hurricane Mitch.  Each year around 30 young boys in grades four through six lived at this facility and attended the local public school. Unfortunately, the center had to be closed in 2009 due to a reduction in funding.  Because there is a great need to provide educational opportunity for the very poor living in the remote mountains and valleys of that area, APUFRAM wants to reopen this site.

Endowment Fund

An endowment fund for this purpose was set up several years ago by APUFRAM.  Funds deposited in this account include profit made from participation in a recycling project of plastic bottles and pop cans, donations collected in special bottles placed in businesses throughout Honduras, and a few generous contributions designated for this purpose from supporters in the United States.

APUFRAM Internationalís Goal

APUFRAM International has now inaugurated our own campaign to help reopen this important site.  The goal is to raise $35,000 which, when added to the amount already in the endowment fund, will go a long way to earn enough interest monthly to support the operation of this facility. In addition, APUFRAM plans future income producing projects, such as selling eggs and raising and selling geese, chickens, and ducks in order to cover all maintenance expenses of La Barca.  Vegetable gardens will also be planted to provide food for the boys living at this facility.

APUFRAM would like to reopen La Barcaís doors in January 2016.  Will you help us make that happen?  All contributions, no matter the size, will help us reach our goal and will be greatly appreciated. Find out how to make a donation here.
